How to enable 2FA

  Print
To enable 2FA (multifactor authentication, two factor authentication) on your My NodeSpace account, you have a couple of options. Please review each of the options listed to see which one would fit your needs best.

Yubikey Authentication (Recommended)

Requirements:
  • A Yubikey that works on your device (one can be purchased here if you do not currently have one)
Process:
  1. Login to your My NodeSpace portal account at https://my.gonodespace.com.
  2. In the upper right hand corner, click on your name and then click on Security Settings.
  3. Click on the button to enable 2FA.
  4. Select Yubikey from the options list and click the Get Started button.
  5. Plug your Yubikey into your computer and wait until your operating system recognizes the device. On macOS, it is recognized as a keyboard. Close out of the keyboard setup wizard as there is no layout to configure. Click inside the field and press the gold circle on your Yubikey.
  6. Upon successful activation, My NodeSpace will let you know that 2FA is now enabled on your account. You will be shown a backup code. Save this backup code and treat it as a password. It will only be displayed to you once and if your Yubikey is lost, damaged, or destroyed, this backup code is the only way into your account! We recommend using a password manager such as Bitwarden (which is available free of charge) to safely store this backup code.
  7. The next time you login to your account, you will be prompted for your Yubikey. Simply insert your Yubikey into your USB port and tap on the button to have the Yubikey insert the password. If you do not have your Yubikey, click the link "Login using Backup Code" to enter your backup code and to regain access to your account.

Time Based Tokens

Requirements:
  • Google Authenticator app
  • Microsoft Authenticator app
  • Any other similar time based token app - if you're not sure if the one you have will work, please contact support and we can let you know.
Process:

  2. In the upper right hand corner, click on your name and then click on Security Settings.
  3. Click on the button to enable 2FA.
  4. Select Time Based Token from the options list and click the Get Started button.

  7. The next time you login to your account, you will be prompted for the 6 digit authentication code. Open the authentication app you registered and enter the current code. If you do not have your device, click the link "Login using Backup Code" to enter your backup code and to regain access to your account.
