At NodeSpace, we take security very
seriously. As of today, we now offer the ability to secure your account with a Yubikey in addition to our previous Time Based Token method.
What is a Yubikey?
A Yubikey is a hardware token that you can purchase and use to secure your account. Instead of typing in a 6-digit code generated from an app, this USB device plugs into a USB port on your computer and you touch it to generate a secure token. Yubikeys can be used with multiple services such as Google, Facebook, Windows login, macOS login, etc. and comes in a variety of formats - USB-A, USB-C, NFC, and Lightning connector (for iPad, iPod, and iPhone). Yubikey supports multiple types of encryption protocols such as FIDO2, U2F, Smart Card, Open PGP, and OTP.
Where can I get a Yubikey?
You can purchase a Yubikey from Yubico's online store. You can find the right Yubikey model for you here
. A single Yubikey starts at $45 and is a great investment as a single key can authenticate a lot!
Is a Yubikey safer than Google Authenticator?
Yes! Because a Yubikey is a physical hardware token, it is not easy to be duplicated. There's no typing, and re-typing of 6-digit codes. Nothing is texted to you or emailed to you because it all lives on the Yubikey. Because a Yubikey supports multiple forms of encryption on one device, your Yubikey can be used for many different services. The same Yubikey that you use to login to My NodeSpace can also be used to login to your computer or your Google Account.
